NEW DELHI: Forty-five city schools were on Monday conferred the Excellence in Education Awards 2021, with Sarvodaya Co-ed Vidyalaya in Pitampura bagging the award for the best state school. Among Schools of Excellence, the Kalkaji institute took the top prize.
Besides, 276 students of classes 10 and 12 who had performed well in exams were also given the award.
The event was held after a gap of two years due to the pandemic. For the year 2020, 48 schools received the award. A total of 102 students with disabilities were also awarded for both years.
Deputy chief minister, who also holds the education portfolio, Manish Sisodia applauded teachers and said even during Covid, they gave out the message of "learning never stops".
"This year, schools were tested on various parameters, not just the results, which are 100% at almost every school. The other parameters were co-curricular activities, enrolment, accessibility, the number of students taking professional courses and attendance," Sisodia said.
He added, "Schools get success when they perform well, but to become excellent, out-of-the-box thinking is required. It is because of their uniqueness and innovation that schools get these awards. But after winning the award, the challenge increases because now they compete with themselves to become better."
Sisodia said that the schools should maintain their standards of excellence and strengthen India's future by providing quality education to children. He also lauded Delhi's education model, saying it is not just one of leadership, but a result of collective efforts.
Meanwhile, five private schools were also awarded for the academic year 2021-22. These included National Victor Public School, IP Extension (east district); Vikas Bharti Public School, Rohini Sector 24 (northwest); Nav Jeewan Model School, Vishnu Garden (west), Modern School, Vasant Vihar (south); and Springdales School, Pusa Road (central).
