Bengaluru: The high court on Thursday ordered notice to the state government on a fresh petition filed by Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka.
The petitioners have challenged the November 10, 2020 circular which required them to leave open one-third space in front of school buildings, install fire extinguisher equipment and have overhead water tanks of 10,000-litre capacity with heavy-duty pumping facility. They have also claimed the authorities failed to consider their representations submitted during the last 18 months.
Justice P Krishna Bhat has asked the government advocate to get instructions by the next date of hearing.
The petitioners have expressed difficulties, citing financial loss owing to Covid-19 and inability to pay salaries to staff. According to them, they are running budget schools, which were registered and recognised before the new school norms were prescribed and seek minimum implementable norms that are already in place as per Supreme Court directions. They have urged the court to direct the government to form a committee to look into their issues and explore solutions, without discriminating between public and private institutions.
