The NASA 2022 Human Exploration Rover Challenge was won by two Indian student groups from Punjab and Tamil Nadu.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration announced the challenge on April 29 during a virtual awards ceremony, which drew 91 teams from 58 institutions and 33 secondary schools.
WHAT WAS THE GOAL OF THE NASA CHALLENGE?
The competition required US and international student teams to design, build, and test a human-powered rover on a track that simulated the topography of rocky worlds throughout the solar system.
The teams accomplished mission duties such as sample retrievals and spectrographic analysis while negotiating the course.
"This year, students were challenged to build a course that would imitate obstacles as if they were competing in Huntsville," Aundra Brooks-Davenport, activity lead for the challenge at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, told PTI on Tuesday.
"Ensuring team safety was a crucial consideration when designing their own obstacles. We are thrilled with the virtual competition and the opportunities it has afforded our teams "According to Brooks-Davenport.
