Shelly Bisht

(Educator,Writer,Speaker and Social Worker)

Hi !!! A beautiful world of roses and sunshine, smiles and Greetings which awaits me.

I am Ms Shelly Bisht, an Educator, Writer, Speaker and Social Worker. Please give me the Liberty to take you in my sojourn of quest for happiness and peace of mind. My story starts on July 1, 1979 when an angel came into the lap of Mrs. & Mr I.M. Gosain amidst the green landscapes of Dehradun surrounded by the Queen of Hills Mussorie. Privileged to be the daughter of a proud father, Retd. Research Officer from Irrigation Department, MSc Mathematics, full time homemaker my Gorgeous mom Mrs Manju Gosain, MA Economics and a protective elder brother Mr Jai Singh Gosain.

I was brought up in the serene purified environs of Doon Valley schooled in Convent Of Jesus and Mary. I did my MA in English Literature, B.Ed. and MBA and got married to an alumni of St George’s College, Mussorie.

I had a fairy tale story with a happy family of two kids, drama queen 14 year old daughter and my 16 year old son, handsome dude with handsome hubby who is ASIAPACIFIC DIRECTOR in an MNC. Myself working as a Sr PGT English & Coordinator in a public school in New Delhi since 21 years. Things were hunky dory till Pandemic struck in 2019.

We were trying to understand the new Novel word Corona, had huge discussion in the staff room, watched News Channels at home and discussed in the family at length. Daily, there were new reports of how it came from Wuhan, China and spreading in the world. Till December 2019, it was a hot burning issue till it hit India.

I still remember the day in the month of March 2020 when I was appointed as Assistant Head Coordinator for On the Spot Evaluation of English core (301) for CBSE BOARD EXAMINATION 2019-20 in a public school in New Delhi and how I started going with all essentials i.e. mask , gloves, sanitizer and how we worked in social distancing till the BIG BREAKING NEWS OF INDIA LOCKDOWN was given by the Honourable Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi on March 22nd, 2020. Immediately, the evaluation process stopped and as per CBSE guidelines all bags were properly sealed in presence of the concerned CNS and we all were directed home locked for 21 days. We hoped to return back to normalcy after 21 days but didn’t realize the lurking danger of corona scare. It extended and extended month by month.

We immediately switched over to online teaching including my kids and my husband adapted Work From Home cancelling all his travels, business meetings and conferences. Zoom, MS Team, Google classroom, Google Meet was the in thing. We practised hard and motivated and encouraged the children into the new trends in the Education during the pandemic times. The world of teaching fraternity was upside down. We were sitting with our laptops, planning online classes, preparing online modules, assignments, conducting virtual functions, meetings, PTM etc. and maintaining the record in Google Drive & Excel. And then, switching over to the household chores also since the domestic help was banned during lock down.

I tried to maintain a good environment at home and school balancing both places with an optimistic attitude and cheerful mannerism.

Meanwhile, I was appointed CBSE OBSERVER for the Board Practicals. Unlock phase started, there was a sudden outburst on the roads, market and malls. I thought probably things will ease down due to the first covid vaccination drive. Although we were taking the precautions but you never knew what was in store for you. The dark clouds were hovering around my sweet home. And the sinister Corona was eyeing us. Poor us, never realized the demon corona wanna feed us. My hubby took his first corona shot on 10th April 2021 and on 13th was down under the weather. I thought it was the usual side effects of the vaccine but it deteriorated into bodyache, weakness and splitting headache. I got the home visit of the corona test done but the reports came after 4 days. Prior to the reports, my husband's condition worsened and we need to shift him to his sister’s place in an ambulance since she was from medical background.

I still remember the darkest night of my life, the 23rd April 2021 when my husband’s oxygen level dropped to 80, acute bodyache and splitting headache, we panicked and ran pillar to post for one bed with oxygen supply. But aghast, it as a big NO from all corners. I did thousand phone calls to my near and dear ones but to my surprise half of them were already covid positive and others tried to help but it was in vain. In an emergency, I admitted him to a small nursing home nearby but it didn’t serve the purpose. There was no oxygen in the nursing home.

I prayed to God,gathered my strength and did all the surveys and used all my contacts. As the saying goes, Every dark cloud has a silver lining, I did manage to get a good hospital but there was a dearth of oxygen cylinder and remdesivir injections. My brother in law flew in, tried hard and arranged oxygen cylinders and remdesivir injections. The first CT Scan reports came. It was horrifying to find 75% chest infection. His values were 16/25. I shivered with fear and by the time I and my two kiddos were positive. We quarantined ourselves at home, medicated and prayed to God. My entire family was at stake. On the top of all, I burnt myself while preparing tomato soup for the family. I was under terrific pain and there were blisters all over my face, neck and hands.

2nd CT Scan reports were even more terrific. The infection worsened. The values were 18/25. I showed courage and tried to maintain my calm. Meditation, Gayatri Mantra and Hanuman Chalisa strengthened me. We discussed with doctors, continued with his treatment. I got associated with many prestigious Educational Organisations and NGO’s because I wanted to do something for the humanity and the children and not become the cry baby at home.

To distract myself from this personal agony and grief I participated in endless webinars. I hosted International and National Webinar to boost my confidence. I wrote short stories and articles and it got featured in BSC, Educlouds Gold Edition and various other magazines. I did the 10 day Summer Creative Writing course for the children aged 10-15 years. I was nominated for the Best Language Teacher and the Best Language Trainer Award. I am nominated for Global Creative Women Awards 2021.l am a certified Chief Coordinator Trainer Speaker of GRKQFS Delhi region and Guest Speaker of IDYM.l am appointed as Country Assistant Director lNDIA of Global Literary Temple.l even gave my Interview to an NGO sharing my story of Covid Fight Back when my husband was discharged from the hospital. Doctors advised him six months recovery period with proper care, diet and stress free life.

At present, we are out of the danger zone but the lesson I learnt the hard way was never to loose hope. My message to all my readers is that Trust God and yourself. Have faith and belief in you and your family members.Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls. Trust your journey.Even if the road seems a little rough at times….you will get there as I did.

Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It’s about impact, influence and inspiration. And ,I am sure I am able to inspire you all from my story. My mission in life is to create a world where we can live in harmony with nature.I want to spread positivity in this pandemic by creating awareness how to combat Corona with will power ,faith, belief and determination.

I will take your leave by quoting the lyrics of Michael Jackson song:

Heal the world

Make it a better place

For you and for me, and the entire human race

There are people dying

If you care enough for the living

Make a better place for you and for me.”

My Message : Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you 'll start getting positive results.
