SHARING AN INSPIRING AND EVENTFUL JOURNEY OF MRS. MANISHA GARG - A PASSIONATE EDUCATIONIST AN EDULEADER AND SCIENCE TEACHER AT UPS NARANGPUR, PARIKSHITGARH, MEERUT
MRS. MANISHA GARG (A.T. Science, UPS NARANGPUR, PARIKSHITGARH, MEERUT)
Life has been a topsy-turvy ride with respect to my career. I have approximately 21 years of teaching experience, 15 years in English medium and 6 years in Hindi medium school. Having travelled a long zigzag path, starting from ICSE to CBSE and presently in UP Board school, I have encountered many challenging situations.
I strongly believe in “Success isn’t only getting name and fame; it is balance between personal and professional life”. My belief directed my life’s journey from elementary school till date. I have done my nursery to grade 12 from convent school, graduation from girl’s college, post-graduation from Co-ed College, and professional degree from girl’s college. The switch in itself had its own challenges, as one meets people with different mind-sets and has to react accordingly. My subject science gives me plenty of time to play with hands on material, brainstorm my students, assigning them various projects, inculcating questioning skills in them, along with many other artistic traits.
I do remember very well, when I was in class VI, my class-teacher asked my entire class about our aim in life. I proudly stood up and said that I would become a teacher; even specifying the subjects (either maths teacher or a science teacher). This was a surprising element for all, as I am quite an introvert personality. My subject selections for grade 12 were accordingly made, PCBM (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Maths). I was still in my final year of MSc (Chemistry) when I got married. My husband supported me a lot in my studies and I completed my post graduation with flying colours. He motivated as well as supported me in fetching (BEd) professional education degree and it is only with his encouragement that I am successful in my career.
I have seen the transitory phase of society from students shaking with fear in present of their teachers to students smiling and friendly shaking hands with their teachers; from feet touching of teachers to totally ignoring them. It was indeed challenging to adapt to changing scenarios.
My parents have always encouraged taking part in co-curricular activities as well as sports. While playing volleyball in class 11, I severely injured my right hand thumb. The incident was a nightmarish one as it left me with permanent tennis-elbow problem, with which I am dealing till date. Second setback came in the form of smell allergy, I had to gather up all my will power to carry on with teaching as being a Chemistry teacher, and I had to be amidst smell a lot.
I always wished to make science or chemistry a friendly subject rather than a troublesome one. My students love me a lot and are in touch with me even after many years of completing their schooling. This recognition and love is my real achievement. Being a teacher to live lifelong in my students hearts is just a dream come true for me.
My toughest decision was to switch to government job. Private schools have different infra-structure, facilities and challenges then the Government schools. My biggest achievement was to come out as winner again by easily adapting to the change ahead.
Since September 2015, I am teaching in Government Hindi medium school. Students here need to be encouraged, motivated and attracted towards education. I started up with the same from the very first day. Carried my personal laptop to teach them, distributed stationery items/schoolbags/English grammar books to them, held various competitions like handwriting, oral recitations, chart making; cleanliness drive in and around school as well as their homes; it increased the enrolment in school.
With the support of my school staff and students, I won first prize in Block level Science exhibition for my school. COVID-19 created havoc in education system. To deal with it, I started making educational videos for my students along with worksheets. Initially, students showed interest but later on they started running away; it was quite a challenge to hold the and connect to studies. I along with four of my colleagues decided to go for online assembly in the name of SUPRABHAT. It worked, students as well as teachers enjoyed the concept of yogasan/yogmudra, moral story, thought and activity based learning a lot. CORONA era teaching needed up-gradation with technology, for which I enrolled myself in various courses and polished my skills. I came up with a FB page by the name of ConnectingDots, therein I share #Glimpses of today’s date (importance of date), which again became a hit. Various online competitions like poetry, painting etc. were held through it. Special of the day posters are also released daily, simply to keep students and fellow teachers enlightened. I have also contributed towards state level group of rise and shine with morning assembly (videos for allround development of students); navachar ek pahal- for poetric lessons. I have also done door to door survey for CORONA. Election duty on 25-26 April was very challenging one with respect to safeguarding self from CORONA.
I will consider myself successful in my work if all my students grow up to be honest virtuous moral binding successful citizens.
