LKG, UKG Classes Too Shut In Puducherry Following Increase In 'Flu' Cases

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Government announced on Saturday that lessons will be cancelled for LKG and UKG in addition to the closure of schools for pupils in classes 1 through 8 due to an increase in paediatric flu-like illnesses. To treat children with flu-like fever instances, the Puducherry Health Department has developed specialised clinics in all hospitals and basic health centres.

A representative for the Health Department told PTI on Friday that hospitals have increased treatment efforts because to the "sharp surge" in the number of children seeking care for fever, colds, and coughs. Since a few days ago, private clinics all across Puducherry have been receiving influenza patients. The administration has agreed to the Health Department's proposal that schools be closed to stop the spread of influenza-like fever.

The decision made by the Education Directorate following a recommendation from the Health Department to declare a holiday for LKG, UKG, as well as for classes I through 8, from Saturday until September 25, has received the approval of Chief Minister N Rangasamy and Home Minister A Namassivayam, who is also in charge of education. As a precaution, classes have been cancelled at all public and private schools, according to a department of education official.
