NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: Schools across Noida and Ghaziabad recorded low attendance on Tuesday — the day campuses reopened for classes 6 to 8 after remaining shut for nearly 17 months because of Covid-19.
While classes were to start from Monday, they got postponed following a state holiday on account of former chief minister Kalyan Singh’s death.
The low attendance suggests parents are still wary of sending their children to school even though the government order does not stipulate their consent.
In noida student did not turn up at some private schools such as Amity International School, Somerville School and Shiv Nadar School. Other schools recorded 5%-30% attendance on the day.
Shiv Nadar School is planning to continue online classes till September 30 after taking parents’ feedback in an internal survey. DPS in Greater Noida, said that they need to fortify transport facilities and work out optimal utilisation of resources for both physical and online classes in the absence of adequate numbers of children turning up. Modern School and some government schools in GB Nagar reported about 30% attendance.
“The school has also put all safety protocols and measures in place to start physical classes whenever required. Barring medical exceptions, 100% of our staff is vaccinated,” said Shashi Banerjee, director of education, Shiv Nadar School.
The principal of Amity School said they have made all preparation to reopen for junior classes as per the directives of the state government. “We have ensured that all Covid protocols are followed and parents are informed about the same. We are waiting to receive their consent to resume classes,” said Singh.
At Somerville School, principal MN Arul Raj informed that “no students for junior classes turned up as parents did not give consent. Only senior classes are being held as they have compartment exams from Wednesday.”
