Kalka Public School Principal Dr. Anju Mehrotra and the school teachers took advantage of the opportunity of lockdown and gave children a chance to smile and participate in Value Education Week being celebrated by the school from 8th June to 13th June 2020 for classes VI to XII.
The Human Value for Monday 8,2020 was Mindfulness. The two teachers of Kps, MS Neelam Giri & MS Kanchan Sharma conducted an Online Talk Session for class XI on Mindfulness. The pleasant morning started with warm wishes Online with the students. The Principal’s audio was played where she expressed her love and concern to Parents and Students and advised them to stay strong during lockdown.
Ms Kanchan started her words with the meaning of Mindfulness. .It’s actually maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens. She further added Mindfulness also involves acceptance, meaning that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them—without believing, for instance, that there’s a “right” or “wrong” way to think or feel in a given moment. When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we’re sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.
To make its meaning more meaningful and for apt comprehension by the students,Ms Neelam Giri added lot of anecdotes by elaborating the subject : It's easy to get caught up in a pattern of swirling thoughts—thinking about a laundry list of things that need to be done, ruminating on past events, or could-be situations of the future—and learning mindfulness can help. But what exactly is mindfulness? It can be defined as a mental state that involves being fully focused on "the now" so you can acknowledge and accept your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment.
Mindfulness meditation is a mental training practice that teaches you to slow down racing thoughts, let go of negativity and calm both your mind and body. Doing mindfulness is like a fitness routine for your brain,” she said. “It keeps your brain healthy.”At the end of the session students wee asked to take an Online Quiz on Self Awareness. The students enjoyed the session. The Activity for the day was to make videos on various Yoga Aasans. Many students participated enthusiastically which is worth appreciating.
